Have you ever had an a-ha moment? Where an insight or a discovery strikes you and provides a clarity that you haven’t had before? I get pretty excited when I get to play a role in others’ a-ha moments. I’d like to share a few with you here.
Yesterday, I facilitated a half-day workshop for a fabulous group in Brookings, SD. One of the women who attended had an a-ha moment 45 minutes into our day! She had been progressing in her career and was recently promoted to a department head. She had done this without a college degree but was feeling pressure from peers (not top leadership) to get her degree. Pursuing a degree hasn’t been a dream or a goal of hers. Yet, she’s been carrying the guilt of not having the degree. Meanwhile, she is studying to get a certification in her field; a certification which will be extremely relevant and pertinent to her role. As our discussion of possibilities and mindset was unfolding, she had an a-ha moment that released her from the guilt she had been feeling to get the degree. She ‘knew’ prior to the workshop, that the guilt wasn’t warranted, but something clicked yesterday where she was freed from the guilt.
As many of you know, in addition to inspirational speaking to ‘live’ audiences, I’m also blessed to have the opportunity to provide inspiration over the airwaves on Life 97.9 (most weekday mornings 6 am – 9 am.) Sometimes we only have a few seconds to share thoughts in between songs; recently I posed a question during an 8 second ramp of a song. The song that was ending was a song about letting go of control, and letting God. So I simply encouraged our listeners to actually do it … to actually let go and let God. We had a listener call in that day to tell us that she had an a-ha moment after hearing that. Yes, she ‘knew’ she needed to let go and let God, but she gained insight that she hadn’t truly let go in her heart and once she did, she found a great release.
What do you ‘know’ that you aren’t fully practicing or believing? What do you ‘know’ in your head but have yet to embrace in your heart?
If you haven’t had any a-ha moments, maybe these examples will resonate with you. If you have had an a-ha moment, please let me know! Comment here, e-mail me or join the conversation on Facebook at TeresaInspires.
